Great Kings The four Great Kings or Chaturmaharajas are Dhritarastra, Virudhak, Virupaksha and Vaisravana. Dhritarastra is one of the four Great kings in the first heaven of this desire realm. He serves as the guardian in the East. He protects the land and living beings so he is called Heavenly Lord of maintaining the country. Virudhak is yet another great king of the southern direction. He resides in the middle of Sumeru mountain. He rules over a city called Sudarsana located to the south of Sumeru Mountain. Virupaksha is one of the four great kings who rules the first heaven of desire realm in the west. He is the lord of Nagas. He serves as the guardian of this Jambudvipa of the western direction. Vaisaravana is also one of the four great kings who rules the first heaven of the desire realm in the north. He is the lord of Yakshas. Some regard him as also the lord of wealth who gives blessings for prosperity. He rules over the city north of Sumeru mountain, supremely beautiful, adorned with precious jewels.
